Malaysia has thirteen states and three federal territories separated in 2 regions by the South China Sea. Malays, Chinese, Indians are the main ethnic group and many other ethnic groups have lived together in Malaysia for generations. All these cultures have influenced each other, creating a truly Malaysian culture.

The architectures in Malaysia are combination of many different styles, which influences by the different cultures and religions. The most influences is Hindu-Indian, Arab-Muslim, Chinese while Portuguese, Dutch and British colonization have also have also influenced local architecture.

Malaysia has a wide range of traditional handicrafts to be choosing. Popular items of traditional design include Perak's labu sayong, geluk, belanga, Chinese dragon kiln ceramics and Sarawakian tribal motif pottery. Contemporary items include vases, flower pots, decorative pottery, sculpture and kitchenware. Colourful and captivating, Malaysia's traditional textiles are much sought after worldwide. Varieties include batik, songket, pua kumbu and tekat. Enticing hand-crafted accessories abound in Malaysia. Choose from leather-crafted goods, beadwork necklaces from Borneo or finely made gold and silver jewellery adorned with gems.

Transportation

Most visitors arrive by air at one of the six international airports in Malaysia. The main gateway is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at Sepang in the state of Selangor. The rest of the country, including Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan in East Malaysia, is well serviced by 14 domestic airports and airstrips.

From KLIA, Kuala Lumpur is a short 28-minute journey away on the comfortable KLIA Express, a high-speed rail service. By road, visitors may travel via the ELITE highway or the North-South Expressway. The North-South Expressway also links the main towns on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Car rental, bus, coach, taxi, limousine and rail services into Kuala Lumpur and neighboring towns are widely available at the airport.

Health advice

The sun is strong throughout the year in Malaysia. Proper care against sunburn must be constantly taken. Dehydration and loss of salt through perspiration are two other common problems for the unprepared traveler. Drink plenty of fluids and replace your salt loss. Make sure you pack clothing suitable for a warm humid climate.

Make sure your food and drinking water are safe. Food from street vendors should be treated with care. Drink only bottled or boiled water, or carbonated (bubbly) drinks in cans or bottles.

Due to the constant humid climate, mosquitoes tend to be present throughout the year. The three most significant diseases transmitted by mosquitoes are Malaria, Dengue Fever and Japanese B Encephalitis. To repel mosquitoes, ticks and other arthropods, apply an insect repellent containing DEET to your skin or clothing.

Malaysia is generally a laid back and relaxed place. However, we do have our own customs and visitors should try to observe these practices when they visit Malaysia.

Although handshakes are generally acceptable for both men and women, some Muslim ladies may acknowledge introductions to gentlemen by merely nodding and smiling. A handshake should only be initiated by ladies.

Shoes must always be removed when entering a Malaysian home.

Drinks are generally offered to guests. It is polite to accept.

The right hand is always used when eating with one's hand or giving and receiving objects.

The right forefinger is not used to point at places, objects or persons. Instead, the thumb of the right hand with four fingers folded under is the preferred usage.

Shoes must be removed when entering places of worship such as mosques and temples. Some mosques provide robes and scarves for female visitors. Taking photographs at places of worship is usually permitted but always ask permission beforehand.

With a long, soft, sandy beach fringed by crystal clear water and lit up brilliantly by the tropical sun is enough to put many people's minds at ease with a heavy sense of peace. There are plenty of Islands and beaches can be found at across Malaysia. Visitor can enjoy water sports and beach activities, experience the mesmerizing reefs, catch the rare sight of newborn turtles going on the first sea adventures or just enjoy in doing nothing.

Pulau Redang is one of the largest and the most beautiful Island located at East coast of Malaysia. It has form a protected marine park, and it offers excellent diving and snorkeling for visitor.

Tioman island is the largest and most developed of the volcanic islands that form the Tioman Marine Park. According to legend, the island is the final resting place of a beautiful dragon princess. Till today, the island bears startling resemblance to a sleeping dragon. The waters around Tioman are ideal for a host of water sports activities, including swimming, boating, kayaking or windsurfing.

Pulau Langkawi is a duty-free shopping destination. Other than cameras, branded items, electronic gadgets, shop for lovely silk batik, handicraft and local products, especially those from the fishing villages. It is an exotic holiday destination that offers accommodation of all kinds (from budget beach chalets to the most sybaritic five star resorts) and amenities sitting side by side with idyllic beaches, ancient rainforests and quaint villages. The archipelago has some of the world's most pristine rainforests, limestone and karst formations, caves with stunning stalactites and stalagmites, and among the world's most beautiful beaches washed by clear emerald waters teeming with marine life.

Batu Ferringhi is situated along the coastal road northwest of Georgetown, is most popular beach in Penang, lined with a string of international-standard hotels and resorts. Soak in the sun or unwind on the beach and enjoy a host of aquatic thrills from banana boat rides to canoeing and jet-skiing. For a spine-tingling adventure, try parasailing to enjoy the view of the beach from the sky. As the sun sets, Batu Ferringhi comes alive with a carnival-like atmosphere with an open-air bazaar selling anything from ornate curios to enticing souvenir items. Watch local artisans demonstate the intricate art of craft-making and batik-painting. Dubbed the Ferringhi Walk, the bazaar offers shoppers a host of attractions.

Cherating Beach is one of the finest beach spots on the east coast of the peninsular with the famous Club Med and the nocturnal ritual of turtle nesting. Plenty of water sports such as catamaran sailing and kayaking can be enjoyed here. The excellent wind conditions in Cherating make it the perfect site to windsurfing and kite flying. Experience the rustic and laid-back atmosphere at the Cherating Village and take home a handicraft or batik souvenir.

This Malaysia's only oceanic island is very small - only 12ha. in size. A 25-minute walk is all that is required to circle the island on foot. Surrounded by crystal clear waters, this crown jewel is a treasure trove of some of the most amazing marine animals. Sipadan Island offers some of the best wall diving in the world. The water's edge presents a drop of more than 609.6 metre (2,000 feet) just 9.14 metre (30 feet) from the beach, and all dive sites are within easy reach by boat. Thousands of marine life, be it big or small, make Sipadan Island their home, making it one of the most exciting dive locations in the world.

Cities in Malaysia are the mixture of traditional and modernity. Our cities display unique multi-cultural heritage, sumptuous cuisine, eclectic arts and eccentric architecture. You can visit to ultra modern Petronas Twin Towers at KLCC and visit to our heritage old railway station and shop in some of world's most luxurious malls or bargain with a trader in a bustling outdoor market.

KLCC is the prime plots of land and properties right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur city. Petronas Twin Towers, one of the tallest building in the world is siting at this prime area. Bukit Bintang is located in The Golden Triangle area next to KLCC. For both shopaholics and coffee-sipping night owls, Bukit Bintang is one of the hippest streets in the city. It's a perfect place for people-watching over a latte between bouts of bargain-hunting. With a wide pedestrian walkway running the length of the street has transformed it into an exciting rendezvous point with open air cafes and restaurants. There are many shopping centres along Bukit Bintang ensure that you will never run out of options.

If you are interest in more tradition or cultured excitement. You must visit to Malacca, one of the smallest state of Malaysia. The state's capital is Malacca Town. This historical city centre has been listed as a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO since 7 July 2008. Heritage such as The Stadthuys, the official residence of the Dutch Governor and his officers built in 1650 or Portuguese Square, the village of colonial Portuguese build about 400 years ago can easily be founded by following the signboard along the road.

George town is the capital of the state of Penang in Malaysia. On 7 July 2008, George Town was, together with Malacca, formally inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is officially recognized as having a unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia.
