Environmental Protection

Small changes make a world of difference. Environmental protection awareness have to be raise up in everyone of us to ease the pressure of our earth and our living environment.

The increment of the population and development of human being has putting pressure on the biophysical environment of our earth. Natural environment is getting lesser due to various human activities. Excessive logging, heavy pollution and toxic waste are some of the issues relating to environmental protection.

Follow my tips on Environmental Protection below to reduce your carbon footprint. Save your environment and save our world.

Tip #1 - Print smart and help reduce paper waste.

Printing is the most common action in our daily activity regardless in working or personal usage. There are the resources and energy used to actually manufacture, use and recycle each printer and cartridge. Infact, paper production uses a lot more energy and emits more CO2 emissions compare to our day to day printing. So, we have to print smarter in order to reduce paper waste on our printing.

Minimize your margin. A margin of .75 inch (95 words per line) or .50 inch (101 words per line) content more words per line than the Microsoft's default of 1.25 inch (82 words per line). Decreasing your page margins can make a big difference on total page count, especially on longer documents.

Fine-tune your font. As my comparison by using Microsoft's default margin of 1.25 inch Font size 12 content 82 words per line while Font size 10 can held 98 words per line. Using a smaller font such as 10 or 11 points can greatly reduce the length of your documents.

Fine tuning on our document using the tips of print smart would save a lot of paper usage in our printing document. In other way, the printing cost will reduce by reducing the paper usage in our printing document.

Tip #2 - Energy saving on computer

The electricity consumption of a computer is one of the cost our electric bill. Here are some easy ways to reduce energy consumptionp to protect the environment and saving our monthly electric bill.

Power saving setting. Power saving setting such as monitor turn-off time or system standby time can save most of the electricity usage for a computer. A computer in idle mode uses 20 to 50 times more power then a computer in standby mode. The recommended monitor turn-off time is 15 minutes and system standby time is 30 minutes.

Disable Screen Saver. Screen Saver actually use 28 percent more power. Instead, set your computer to standby settings when you're away from your desk for more than 30 minutes.

This will save some of your electric bill payment. The energy saved by using these settings may be small, but when you consider the number of computers that are now used at work and home, the total effect can be enormous.

Tip #3 - Energy Saving on electronic device

Electronic devices are the main cost of our electric bill. Below are some tips to make your home more energy efficient.

Switch to Energy Saving Lightbulbs. Change to Compact Fluorescent Light(CFLs) or Light Emitting Diode (LEDs) bulbs will reduce most of the energy usage in your house. CFLs and LEDs can produce the same amount of light with the normal lightbulbs but use up to 80% - 90% less electricity than a normal lightbulbs.

Turn it off and use Natural Light. This is the best pratices of all, we should turn off electronic device such as lights, TV, Radio or any appliances when we are not using it. Using natural light during daylight hours also can save a lot of energy.

These are some tips to saving you money and reducing your environmental footprint.

Tip #4 - Check your temperature to save energy

Besides changing traditional Lightbulbs to Energy Saving Lightbulbs could helps to reduce energy usage, adjustments to temperature or installing a programmable thermostat is the other way to reduce your energy use and your monthly energy bill.

Keep it down in the winter and Bump it up in the summer. Lower your thermostat 1-2 degrees in the winter and Set your air conditioner to 78°F (25°C) in the summer. Check your filter regularly to keep the optimum state. Or use a programmable thermostat to keep the house warm or cool only when someone is home. It could save a lot of energy and your monthly utility bill.

Shower time. Did you know that hot water typically accounts for 13 percent of a utility bill? Turn down the temperature of your hot water heater to 120°F (49°C) could reduce the heater's energy consumption by 3-5% and turn the temperature to low when you're on vacation. Another way to save the energy consumption and your monthly utility bill.

you can still enjoy comfortable living by implementing these setting while you helps to reduce the energy consumption.

Tip #5 - Reduce and reuse of household products.

Not only do many of us produce too much waste, most of that waste is not recycled and goes to landfills or incinerators. Try to reduce the amount of trash you discard and reuse containers and products. Decreasing the amount of garbage you put into the waste stream is an easy way save our environment.

Buy only the supplies you needed.

Read the news online instead of subscribing to a newspaper.

Reuse

Use washable cloth towels to wipe up spills and messes at home instead of using disposable paper towels. Old cloth can be donate to charity shops to reuse by others people.

Keep a reusable cloth bag in a convenient location for grocery trips. Carrier bag also can use as bin bags around the house. It will reduce amount of carrier bag goes to landfills.

These are the common waste from our house. We can reduce a lot of garbage output by doing this simple steps and it could save us some money too.
